Do you believe that election is a concept that applies only to the nation Israel, or does it apply to believers as well? I believe that pre-destination applies to believers, but what about election?
Israel was a nation chosen by God, that He may reveal Himself to the rest of the world through them. They were elected by God to fulfill a specific purpose, namely, to glorify Him to other nations.
Rom. 9:10-12: 10And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac; 11(For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;) 12It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.
Rom. 4:5 5But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
Rom. 11:28,29 28. As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the father's sakes.. 29For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.
Are these verses referring to the election of Israel? But then, there is 2 Peter 1:10,11 which says:
2 Peter 1:10,11 10Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:11For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
From what I understand, the apostle Peter wrote this epistle to a Jewish audience, so would it have been referring to the Jews? The remnant, as Paul stated in Romans 4:5?
Does election refer to the nation of Israel, or does it refer to all believers?
What are your thoughts?
