In religious matters, why can we not see the need for a sure truth? The Word of God is the only standard that matters. It doesn't matter what we THINK, but it IS what GOD says that will determine the final authority! While sounding agreeable to the unspiritual ear, many misguided souls wish CHANGE the standards of the church of Jesus Christ!
1Jo 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
1Jo 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
3Jo 1:3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.
Where there is no standard there is no truth. For something to be true it must be equated by some absolute. His Word is forever settled in heaven—heaven and earth will pass away but His Word shall never pass away!
aul, and all the other apostles, certainly did see the truth themselves concerning the need for the word to be the final authority:
“For this reason I have sent Timothy to you, who is my beloved and faithful son in the Lord, who will remind you of my ways in Christ, as I teach everywhere in every church” (1 Cor. 4:17).
“But as God has distributed to each one, as the Lord has called each one, so let him walk. And so I ordain in all the churches” (1 Cor. 7:17).
“But if anyone seems to be contentious, we have no such custom, nor do the churches of God” (1Cor. 11:16). [simply put this means: if anyone wishes to argue the teachings I have here given, that there is no other doctrine but this teaching and therefore argument is fruitless.]
“For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints....Or did the word of God come originally from you? Or was it you only that it reached?” (1 Cor. 14:33,36).
A thing is neither right or wrong simply because:
1. Our family or we have done it!
2. Some one we trust says so!
3. The congregation accepts or rejects it.
4. Liberal brethren do or do not accept it.
5. Denominationalists accept it or rejects it.
6. We ourselves have always or have never done it.
7. The status quo accepts it or rejects it.
8. Our feelings accept or reject it.
What makes a thing right or wrong is God’s will — as judged by the absolute standard of the Scriptures which He has revealed—The Eternal Word of God. Jesus said, “He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him — the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day” (Jn. 12:48).
