Called to Witness
Key Verse: “Simeon blessed them and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against.” Luke 2:34
Simeon was called to witness. A witness is a person who is requested to be present at a transaction so as to be able to testify to its having taken place. Furthermore, a witness is one who makes known. Simeon was a witness in both regards. He was called by God to be there when Jesus entered the Temple. Moreover, Simeon was a witness in his life and death regarding the coming of the Messiah.
He testified that the Messiah had come as he blessed the child in the Temple. Simeon’s pending death was also confirmation that the Messiah had come, because God had promised that Simeon would not die until he had seen the Redeemer.
Simeon was chosen to be a witness. He dedicated his life to the service of God. Like Simeon, those of us who are baptized in the Holy Ghost must dedicate our lives to the glory of God. This means we must be sensitive to God’s voice and His spirit so that when He sends us, we will go forth and fulfill the purpose He has for us.
God manifested His promise by allowing Simeon to see the Messiah. Simeon fulfilled his purpose in God’s plan and received the reward of rest with the Father. Simeon was able to see the manifestation of God’s promise and testify of the Messiah. His life verified the faithfulness of God. Like Simeon, we are able to partake of God’s glorious truth and spread the Gospel through our lives and the work that we do for the Lord
Have a blessed day and week.
