“And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.” LUKE 24:47. “Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things. And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high,” LUKE 24:46-49. Repentance comes before remission of sins. Remission of sins is forgiveness of sins.

From: OneJesusGirl Sent: 10/11/2006 3:53 PM Acts 2:38, Then Peter said unto them, Repent, When you repent, you are forgiven of your sins. and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, When you are baptized in water in Jesus name, the penalty or stain of the sin is removed, or remitted. and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Repenting and remission are not the same thing, although some people think they are. Repent: 1 : to turn from sin and dedicate oneself to the amendment of one's life 2 a : to feel regret or contrition b : to change one's mind
Remission: 1 a : to release from the guilt or penalty of <remit sins> b : to refrain from exacting <remit a tax> c : to cancel or refrain from inflicting <remit the penalty> d : to give relief from (suffering) 2 : to submit or refer for consideration, judgment, decision, or action; 3 : to restore or consign to a former status or condition
Look at it like this.... I borrow a white shirt from you. I get a big ink stain on it. I bring the shirt back to you and tell you I am truly sorry for getting the ink stain on your shirt. You forgive me, but the ink stain is still there. I now have to wash the shirt to remove the stain, to restore it to it's former condition.
