2 Timothy 3:5 - Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. Has a 'form of godliness" crept in to many of our Apostolic Churches? Ephesians 5:6 - Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
Colossians 2:8 - Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
2Timothy 2:16 - But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

A Form Of Godliness by Arnold J. Saxton The "last days" of II Timothy 3:1 refers to the whole Christian era that began at Pentecost. (Joel 2:28-32; Acts 2:16-21; Hebrews 1:1,2; II Peter 3:2,3) "Houses" in II Timothy 3:6 refers to churches; II Timothy 3 is not dealing with world conditions or eschatology. (Romans 16:5; I Corinthians 6:19; Colossians 4:15; Philemon 2; II John 10) The word "form" in II Timothy 3:5 is the rendering of the Greek word morphosis, which means appearance. Christians can have a form or appearance of godliness that denies the power or ability of genuine godliness without realizing this. How? Making holiness standards an end in themselves instead of teaching sanctification as preparation for service, and/or replacing genuine holiness with legalism (self-righteousness ) or lasciviousness. (Romans 12:1,2; I Timothy 1:5-7; II Timothy 2:21; Jude 4) From S&N

From: CountryPreacher2 Sent: 5/5/2007 6:17 PM A hearty Amen to this topic and to this thread! Surely the Lord and His apostles did warn of such a time as this. O may we each and every one examine ourselves by tghe truth of scripture, and see whether we be in the faith; and let us all bware the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. Let us all who name the name of Christ depart from all iniquity. Until the Lord Comes! Bishop Waverly Jackson
