I've Never Seen the Wind
“The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.” — John 3:8
About thirty years ago, my father-in-law planted redwood seedlings along our property line. Those redwoods now reach nearly one hundred feet toward the sky. When the west wind blows from the coast, I watch those huge trees sway like restless giants, trying to free themselves from an unseen hand. When the redwoods are moving, I often stand on the deck or at a window and watch the action. I see the trees dancing and hear the roar in the tree tops, but I have never seen the wind.
When I was first saved, I remember telling someone that salvation is like the wind. You cannot see it, but it changes things, and you can see the results. At that time, I did not know about the metaphor in the Bible.
Each time the wind disturbs those trees that are so visible, it reminds me of what Jesus has done in my heart and it makes me want to sing and shout!
I am sure a meteorologist or a science teacher could give me a logical explanation of what makes the wind blow, or where it comes from and where it goes, but I still cannot see it. It is enough for me that the grass moves and the trees sway. It is sufficient for me that the breeze cools my face in the evening or early morning when I walk.
I don't know how God did it, but I do know that Jesus came into my heart and made me alive! I feel His great love, and I am secure in the hope of Heaven and in this abundant life He promised. Let the wind blow—I am satisfied.
